Vinyl Requiem is an evocative celebration of the end of an era which was originally a performance in 1993 at the Union Chapel in London and featured 180 Dansette record players. Created by sound artist Philip Jeck in collaboration with visual artist Lol Sargent, the work was produced by shinkansen (a previous incarnation of body>data>space).
You can see a video from the initial 1993 performance here and read more about pioneer ‘sound and movement research and production unit’ shinkansen here
We are very happy to announce that Arnolfini in Bristol and Liverpool Biennal will mark two decades of technological change with the UK premiere of the film version of Philip Jeck’s powerful work this September. This reinvention of a one-off audio-visual performance of remarkable force and scale sees Jeck perform live with his on screen digitised self.
